class descriptions

SnowplowSamSNOW PLOW SAM 1-3: for ages 3-5. Levels designed to help the skater develop preliminary coordination and strength necessary to maneuver on the ice. Each class meets for 30 minutes of lesson time. Upon completion of Snowplow Sam 3, skaters can advance directly to Basic 2. Participants must bring own skates; no rental skates available.

YOUTH BASIC 1-8: for ages 6-16. Eight levels designed to introduce the fundamental moves - forward skating, backward skating, stops, cross-overs, turns and mohawks. Upon completion of the Basic 1-8 Program, skaters will have knowledge of the sport enabling them to advance to more specialized areas of skating. Each class meets for 30 minutes of lesson time. Participants must bring own skates; no rental skates available.

YOUTH HOCKEY for ages 5 & up. Four levels designed to introduce the fundamental skating skills for hockey – ready position, V-starts, forward strides, backward strides, hockey stops, cross-overs, and tight turns. Each class meets for 30 minutes of lesson time. Participants must bring own skates; no rental skates available. Because skating skills are the foundation of success in hockey, the Hudson Skate School recommends that hockey players begin with a basic skills class (snowplow sam for ages 4-5) before taking Hockey 1-4. Students should have passed Snowplow Sam 3 or Basic 1 to enter Hockey 1.

ACADEMY: Academy sessions are designed to develop skaters for the Hudson Skate School competitive team. The Academy class maximum student/coach ratio of 7/1 enables coaches to move children quickly through the basic skating skills and into the competitive arena. Non-registered skaters may ‘buy-on’ to a session for $17. Skaters under the age of 5 must have approval of Program Director in order to be eligible for this class. Participants must bring own skates; no rental skates available.

ADULT BASIC 1-4: The Adult curriculum is designed to promote overall fitness, improve balance and coordination while mastering the basics of ice skating. Divided into 4 levels, adult skaters will progress at an individual rate. Each class meets for 30minutes of lesson time. Participants must bring own skates; no rental skates available.

INTRO TO PRIVATE LESSONS for ages 5 & up. An introduction to private lessons. Skaters will have a 15 minute private (1 on 1) lesson and 15 minutes of practice time. Participants must bring own skates; no rental skates available.
